'Tis correct! I saw a CO out in the bush too, which was nice. I didn't see any steelhead remaining up there like I have in past years. And I think your ideas are correct about the 'steelhead express' bringing salmon up there.

I did however hook into a 20" plus brown in there this time. That didn't last long though, after catching wee brookies for the afternoon I wasn't ready whatsoever for that beast to come out!

We hit a really nice hatch of green drakes on the main branch outside of Durham as well.

NEWS As some of you have noticed, our website has been experiencing problems this week. This was due to an explosion and fire in the electrical room where our servers are physically stored. Luckily no data was lost, but it taken some time to reconnect power and re-initialize the programs. This affected nearly one million websites. At the present time power is being supplied by outside generators until they can rebuild their electrical room. Once this is completed, they will have to power down to change over. We will keep you updated regarding their progress. We have been diligently working on following their progress. Thanks for your patience and support.

Yes, many people may not realize that the tribs open later. The reason ( I think) is that the MNR and some volunteers transport steelhead up the river and that they are still spawning

Yes, lots of stoneflies, black with white spots on the wings. I will always wonder how big that fish was that broke me off, I fought it for at least 10 minutes, had 6lb test with 9 ft noodle rod (use it for steelhead and salmon on Georgian Bay)and it went where it wanted to!!

Fishing Conditions
Thunderstorms and heavy rains continue to make this the wettest summer on record for southern Ontario. Higher river levels have changed the regular locations of fish in most of the rivers. With the cooler nights, the fish are starting to feed more actively, they are starting to put weight on for the long winter months while there is lots of food available.
Our friend Tom Benson (see the fishing picture page) took his son and a friend fishing out of Burlington last weekend and caught these nice salmon. The first one was 17lbs. and the second one was about 30lbs. Both fish put up a great fight and they had a great time. They found that flashers greatly helped.

Best Lures/Bait
Trout/Salmon:##2 & #3 Vibrax spinners, worms, minnows, crayfish, J13 Rapala, #5-#7 Kwikfish, Cisco Swimmin' minnow

Downrigging: Spoons (cracked ice, monkey puke), flutter spoons and Lymans. Use of flashers can greatly increase your catch. Work areas that have high concentrations of baitfish. Salmon will sit underneath the baitfish. Cooler night temperatures are starting to raise the thermocline. This is more prevalent in shallower bays. Lake Huron 60-100ft, Lake Erie 40-50ft, Lake Ontario 50-100ft with thermocline setting up.

Flyfishing: Trios, yellow stonefly, mayfies, minnow imitation, various caddis, green rock worm, iso, and bloodworm.

River Flow Rates: moderate:
Saugeen River (Durham) up at 1.6M, Saugeen River (Walkerton) moderate at 9.9M, Sauble River (Sauble Falls) moderate at .86M, Sydenham River (Owen Sound) moderate at 5.1M, and Saugeen (near Port Elgin) up at 8.05M, Credit River at Streetsville up at 4.9M, Credit River at Orangeville moderate/high at 11.28M, Grand River (Doon) still fairly high at 4.3M.

Prime Fishing Times: Saturday August 16th: 12:10am to 1:25am (moon overhead), 12:33pm to 1:51pm (moon underneath). Full moon Saturday August 16th
