Fish Finder05 Jun : 15:34'Tis correct! I saw a CO out in the bush too, which was nice. I didn't see any steelhead remaining up there like I have in past years. And I think your ideas are correct about the 'steelhead express' bringing salmon up there.
I did however hook into a 20" plus brown in there this time. That didn't last long though, after catching wee brookies for the afternoon I wasn't ready whatsoever for that beast to come out!
We hit a really nice hatch of green drakes on the main branch outside of Durham as well.
brntrout05 Jun : 03:26NEWS As some of you have noticed, our website has been experiencing problems this week. This was due to an explosion and fire in the electrical room where our servers are physically stored. Luckily no data was lost, but it taken some time to reconnect power and re-initialize the programs. This affected nearly one million websites. At the present time power is being supplied by outside generators until they can rebuild their electrical room. Once this is completed, they will have to power down to change over. We will keep you updated regarding their progress. We have been diligently working on following their progress. Thanks for your patience and support.
brntrout29 May : 09:55Yes, many people may not realize that the tribs open later. The reason ( I think) is that the MNR and some volunteers transport steelhead up the river and that they are still spawning
Fish Finder29 May : 05:35Good info to have brntrout!! I've been watching that rather closely as well, its right around the corner from me!!
on another note......lookin forward to the opening of one of the 'geens tribs on sunday! can't wait to fish my favourite brookie stream again! woo hoo!!
brntrout30 Apr : 18:56Yes, lots of stoneflies, black with white spots on the wings. I will always wonder how big that fish was that broke me off, I fought it for at least 10 minutes, had 6lb test with 9 ft noodle rod (use it for steelhead and salmon on Georgian Bay)and it went where it wanted to!!

| Atlantic Salmon Return to Great Lakes The Atlantic Salmon was once an important part of the fish community of Lake Ontario. The average weight of the fish was around 10 lbs. The Credit River was renowned as an Atlantic Salmon stream, but Salmon also thrived in many other Lake Ontario tributaries including Wilmot Creek, Duffins Creek, Cobourg Brook, the Humber River, and the Don River. But over 100 years, the fish number decreased dramatically due to habitat loss and overfishing. Dams, loss of forest cover, siltation of spawning beds, and overfishing contributed to their decline.
Research and experimental stocking have laid the groundwork for a major new partnership to bring back the Atlantic salmon to Lake Ontario. Their goal is to restore wild (self-sustaining) populations of Atlantic Salmon to Lake Ontario. Research has shown that young Atlantic salmon can grow and survive well in Lake Ontario tributaries today. To find out more about this story, visit the MNR website MNR Atlantic Salmon

| Sport Fish Survival Challenged In Lake Ontario, monster lake trout keep anglers awake at night with anticipation. However, its primary source of food is threatened. The slimy sculpin is a 3 inch long, brown fish is threatened.
Without the thousands of tiny prey fish like the sculpin, the larger fish of Lake Ontario and other Great Lakes couldn't survive. And their numbers are plummeting, scientists say.
| Brown Trout Hatchery We went out with Andy McKee on Sunday November 13th to get our brown trout eggs. The storms held off and it was a beautiful day. Everything went like clockwork. The new easy loader trays from Scotty Downriggers was a tremendous help. They saved a lot of time. We now have 10,000 eggs in the river. You can see pictures and descriptions in our hatchery section.
The Upper Saugeen Habitat Restoration Association (Canadian Angling.com) is proud to announce the birth of 9,400 brown trout into the upper Saugeen River. We had our best hatch rate ever at 94% hatch and release! A warm winter dramatically improved our hatch rate. In the early spring, major floods (20 year high levels) moved the incubators down the river, however they hatched and emerged from the incubators safely. Mother nature is truly amazing. We have now hatched and released over 35,000 wild brown trout into the upper Saugeen River over the years. A special thank you to Andy Mckee from the M.N.R., and the all the sponsors and volunteers, who have been fantastic in supporting our endeavors. To see how we get the eggs and our succesful hatchings over the years, click on the Trout Hatchery link on the upper right hand of this page. Thank You

Thunderstorms and heavy rains continue to make this the wettest summer on record for southern Ontario. Higher river levels have changed the regular locations of fish in most of the rivers. With the cooler nights, the fish are starting to feed more actively, they are starting to put weight on for the long winter months while there is lots of food available. Our friend Tom Benson (see the fishing picture page) took his son and a friend fishing out of Burlington last weekend and caught these nice salmon. The first one was 17lbs. and the second one was about 30lbs. Both fish put up a great fight and they had a great time. They found that flashers greatly helped.
Best Lures/Bait Trout/Salmon:##2 & #3 Vibrax spinners, worms, minnows, crayfish, J13 Rapala, #5-#7 Kwikfish, Cisco Swimmin' minnow
Downrigging: Spoons (cracked ice, monkey puke), flutter spoons and Lymans. Use of flashers can greatly increase your catch. Work areas that have high concentrations of baitfish. Salmon will sit underneath the baitfish. Cooler night temperatures are starting to raise the thermocline. This is more prevalent in shallower bays. Lake Huron 60-100ft, Lake Erie 40-50ft, Lake Ontario 50-100ft with thermocline setting up.
Flyfishing: Trios, yellow stonefly, mayfies, minnow imitation, various caddis, green rock worm, iso, and bloodworm.
River Flow Rates: moderate: Saugeen River (Durham) up at 1.6M, Saugeen River (Walkerton) moderate at 9.9M, Sauble River (Sauble Falls) moderate at .86M, Sydenham River (Owen Sound) moderate at 5.1M, and Saugeen (near Port Elgin) up at 8.05M, Credit River at Streetsville up at 4.9M, Credit River at Orangeville moderate/high at 11.28M, Grand River (Doon) still fairly high at 4.3M.
